Why have I chosen these two phones and not others? Why have I not chosen the iPhone 11 Pro, the Pixel 4 or the Samsung Galaxy S10?

If you want the phone with the best photo and video cameras, I would definitely go for one of these, starting perhaps with the latest or penultimate iPhone available. Then I would go to the Pixel and then to the top-of-the-range Samsung S series. Then we have the high-end Huawei, the P Pro series and the Mate Pro. With any of these 4 we are going to have enormous photographic and video quality . Also, perhaps Huawei is the one that offers the most options to change camera settings, so if you want to be more creative, this could be your alternative and there have news latest iphone 14 price in bangaldesh .

So why haven’t I chosen one of these? Because in the title I say it clearly: “cheap”, so at a stroke we have to discard them . Nor have I wanted to go one step lower than that of the models that I am going to analyze because I wanted to find the best quality for the lowest price. This already excludes other brands such as Xiaomi. “How? If you defended Xiaomi to the death!”

Yes, I have had Xiaomi for years and I am going to defend Xiaomi to the death. So I said to myself “ok, let’s find the best phone in this section for the lowest possible price ”. I have kicked Amazon, Chinese stores, specialized media and YouTube channels and finally I have reached the Nova 5T, a Huawei mid-range and recently released, and the OnePlus 7T, another newcomer that is delighting many.

Let’s see what characteristics I have taken into account to choose these two and which one I prefer .

screen and sound

When I look for a phone I want its sound not to sound canned, like in most Xiaomi phones, but to have a good richness of sounds throughout its range. I am a regular user of music and podcast apps and have appreciated this feature more and more over time.

Well, both the Nova 5T and the OnePlus 7T have very powerful speakers with good dynamic ranges. They have a good punch in the bass and they defend themselves well at any frequency, without, of course, reaching the level of an iPhone or a Samsung of the S series.

As for the screens, both have panels with FullHD + resolution, that is, 2340 x 1080 pixels, although here the winner is the OnePlus 7T due to the size of the screen, 6.55 inches compared to the 6.26 inches of the Nova 5T; and also because of the technology, AMOLED vs. IPS LCD of the Nova 5T . On an AMOLED screen, the blacks are purer and in general, in this OnePlus 7T I appreciate that the colors are somewhat more vivid, and less faded than those of the Nova 5T and latest new and used price here smartphone.

Also, two important details. The first is that the Oneplus 7T screen is HDR10+ and we are going to take advantage of it in applications like Netflix. The other is that it supports the DCI-P3 color space . Remember what I said about the DCI-P3 in this video? Well, this is one of those smartphones capable of adapting to this space. What does that mean? Well, it will be able to represent up to 86% of the color range that the human eye can capture, compared to 70% of Rec709 or sRGB.

And for the “flipadetes”, the screen of the OnePlus 7T is 90 hertz, compared to 60 hertz of most screens out there now, so we are going to have more fluidity navigating through the menus. Although I have this disabled because it uses more battery.

Photography

This may seem like nonsense, but the main feature that I was looking for in the photographic section in both terminals is that they have the option to take photos in RAW . This means that I can then transfer the photos to my PC and do a much more precise retouching. Both smartphones have this option in their “pro” photo mode.

Nova 5T lenses: main 48 megapixels, aperture f / 1.8. 16 MP wide angle with f/2.2 aperture, 2 MP macro with f/2.4 aperture, 2 MP telephoto, f/2.4, 32 MP f/2.0 selfie.

OnePlus 7T lenses: 48-megapixel main lens, f/1.6 aperture, a tad more than Huawei’s, 12-megapixel f/2.2 telephoto lens and 16-megapixel wide-angle lens, also f/2.2. There are three cameras but it has a trick because the main one also has a macro option. Its selfie camera is f/ 2.0 at 16mpx, half that of the Nova 5T.

The OnePlus 7T and the Nova 5T mount the exact same main camera sensor, the Sony IMX586 Exmor RS.

Both the OnePlus 7T and the Huawei Nova 5T support GCam out of the box. What is GCam? The Google Pixel camera application is considered the best on the market due to the advanced processing of photos that makes it take oil even with low-medium range cameras.

The GCam is not found in the Play Store, but you have to download it from websites that offer specific versions of the app for your smartphone model. To find it, we just have to search Google for “best Gcam for…” and the device model and download the APK that will install the application.

I think that both offer a good photographic section, although I generally prefer the OnePlus 7T . This is subjective, but I do appreciate a better level of detail and color treatment overall in the 7T’s photos.

Video

In the video section, what I would ask of any current smartphone, despite the price going up a bit, is that it has an optical stabilizer. This is an absolute blessing and makes all the difference.

The Nova 5T offers a maximum of 4k recording at 30fps, while the OnePlus 4K is at 60fps and with a “super stable” mode that freaks me out. That is, apart from optical stabilization, add software stabilization and the result is excellent as if you were using a gimbal.

Both terminals allow slow motion recording, although the 5T allows recording at 960fps at 720p, while the 7T stays at 480fps at 720p.

Additional features

Both the OnePlus and the Nova 5T have facial recognition and a fingerprint sensor, only the one on the Nova 5T is on the side and I have to say that it is brutally fast, but ridiculously fast. In the OnePlus the fingerprint sensor is under the screen and yes, it is very nice to show it to colleagues and they say wow, but it is a bit slower than a physical fingerprint sensor. Even so, it hasn’t taken me long to get used to those tenths of extra time that it needs and it fails less than I expected.

In processors, the 7T mounts the Snapdragon 855+, the top of the range that currently exists in the chips of the American Qualcomm, and the Nova 5T mounts a Kirin 980, the penultimate of the range of processors developed by Huawei. On a day-to-day basis, it is hardly noticeable, although we are going to have perhaps a little more speed when it comes to taking bursts of photographs.

In RAM, the Huawei has 6GB and the OnePlus 7T has 8GB. You will only notice the RAM when you have 4 or 5 games open and want to change from one to another. For the rest of us mortals, it is enough for us and we have more than enough. Both also have 128GB of storage and top and latest new and used price here smartphone.

As for the battery, the Nova 5T is 3750mah and 3800mah in the case of the 7T. The difference in terms of hours of the screen or use in both terminals is practically negligible, although from what I have seen I have the feeling that the 7T manages the energy better and I have managed to get up to almost 7 hours of screen, which is not bad at all.

In both we have NFC, we do not have a 3.5mm headphone jack and in the Nova 5T we have the proximity sensor on the top. At first, I thought it would be an infrared emitter, but it is nothing more than that sensor placed at the top to take less space from the screen.

Price

As of today (November 2019), the price of the Nova 5T is around 400 euros on Amazon, and in the case of the 7T about 550-600 in Western stores. However, if we go to China, we will find in AliExpress stores and similar offers that lower the price of the 7T to 380 euros! In addition, thanks to OnePlus, at least in Spain we have an official brand warranty for one year, so we will not have to send the phone to China in case of a breakdown.

So here we have two options:

Do you want a relatively cheap phone, over 400 euros, with optical stabilization, good image and sound, compatibility with the GCam, RAW photography, 4 lenses and that, on top of that, when you order it, it will arrive tomorrow and with a full guarantee from your country? I would go for the Huawei Nova 5T without hesitation.

Do you want a phone with more screen and AMOLED technology, 2GB more of RAM, a better photographic section and you don’t mind waiting? Get the OnePlus 7T without batting an eye.

Verdict

This is already a bit subjective, but I prefer the OnePlus 7T for 2 reasons.

The first is because in a smartphone I’m not just looking for a good portable camera, but a good device that works for everything, and I find the OnePlus 7T more “phone” than the Nova 5T. The 7T has Android 10 and the Huawei is on Android 9, OnePlus’ customization layer, OxygenOS, is almost negligible, it’s soberer, less “Chinese” and it’s not intrusive at all.

By the way, the OnePlus is updated very often and is always the second to receive the new versions of Android. The first is the Pixel, logically, and the second is usually the OnePlus.

Huawei is a little lazy to update the operating system and also has the problem that Google has cut off the tap, and even if the Nova 5T has the Play Store, when you want to buy a hypothetical Nova 6T in the future you may not be able to move from one phone to another because it no longer has Google services… That gives me a bit of a bad feeling and makes me opt for the OnePlus 7T.

The second is for the multimedia section. I’ve fallen in love with AMOLED and the quality of the 7T’s screen is simply stunning. And the sound I find that the OnePlus 7T has more body.
