Peugeot 2023 has been investing in the development of the Touring class in recent years. In addition to the much-anticipated 408 model series, a French media report has revealed that the 3rd generation 3008 is about to debut, with the original manufacturer likely to release the prototype at the end of 2022 and the production version in 2023. In order to respond to the trend towards electrification, the 3008 will be available on the EMP2 modular platform, which will be supplemented by light fuel-electric or PHEV power for petrol cars.
The new 3008 is expected to have a larger tank shroud, like the 308, and the name will be placed on the front of the bonnet. The signature fang-shaped headlamps will also be adjusted, but it is believed that they will still be sharp.
In terms of size, the current 3008 is 4,447mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,675mm. The French press believes that the revised model is expected to reach a length of over 4,500mm and a wheelbase of over 2,700mm, in order to maintain its competitiveness in terms of cabin space against its gradually enlarging rivals.
In terms of cabin layout, a large full-color digital instrument and a 10″ or larger central touch screen are expected to be the focus of the overhaul, while the ADAS system will be upgraded to enhance active safety performance.
As for the power unit, Peugeot has previously announced its strategy to offer electrified versions of all models by 2025 and to achieve a fully electric product line-up in Europe by 2030. The 1.6-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine with an 81kW motor and 12.4kWh battery has a combined output of 180bhp and 225bhp and can deliver 60km of pure electric range.
But with all the major car manufacturers expanding into electric mobility, the media think it’s possible that Peugeot will build the e-3008 on a separate STLA Medium electric platform. ~The e-3008 will have a range of 350-700 kilometers on a 400V architecture with an 87-104kWh battery pack. If the e-3008 is equipped with such a specification, it will be much more competitive.
