Base Camp on Mount Everest
Without a question, this is our favorite Himalayan trek. Great panoramas of Everest, a reasonable trail, nice tea houses to stay in, and nearly constant views of some of the world’s tallest peaks will keep you interested over what is generally an 11-day trek. The trail comes to an end at Everest Base Camp, where you can see directly up the Khumbu Glacier’s ice fall towards Everest’s peak, which is still 3500 meters away. In addition to Everest, you’ll travel through three of the world’s ten highest peaks on the way, including Cho Oyu (8201m/26,906ft) and Lhotse (8,516m/27,940ft). The ice-covered cliffs of Pumori (7,161m/23,494ft) and Ama Dablam (6,812m/22,349ft) are similarly stunning, albeit not quite as high. From September to June, you may go hiking, and from December to February, you can go skiing.
The Annapurna Base Camp and Poon Hill
This is really a combo of two treks that may be done alone or together. This journey, like the Everest Base Camp trek, offers a beautiful trail and fantastic tea house accommodations for those looking for a bit more comfort. If you only have four or five days, the climb to Poon Hill is one of the best short hikes in the Himalayas, with stunning Annapurna panoramas. If you have more time, visit Annapurna Base Camp, which is located in the famed Annapurna Sanctuary and gives a breathtaking view of Annapurna I (8,091 m/26,538 ft), the world’s 10th tallest peak. The hike to the base camp provides breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
